Alzheimer’s Support to start a gardening group

Alzheimer’s Support to start a gardening group in Chippenham.

Today I read in the news the Alzheimer Support are starting up a gardening group in Chippenham. This is a new wildlife club which is being ran in partnership between Wiltchire charity Alzheimer’s Support and Foragers Farm. It will be aimed at those who have dementia and also their carers.

This is the sort of news I love to read, not all the bad press we see all the time on the tv and in the newspapers – if only the did a good news newspaper.

Those that attend this group will be able to get involve in pruning, digging, weeding and planting. Yesterday I spoke about how gardening is good for mental health and fitness but I do think this is a fantastic idea it gives those that have dementia time to chat with others and enjoy time with their carers while enjoying being outside in the fresh air. They will be able to benefit from the group atmosphere while being supported with the Alzheimer’s Support group.

If only more places around the UK did this. If I was not working I would love to run a community group for gardening and to teach children about the benefits of gardening.
