It is best to start sowing the radish seeds at the end of April. You can continue to sow small amounts of seed every two weeks until mid-July so that you get a continuous crop.

Varieties of Radish:-

There are many types of radish that you can grow, the well known one is French Breakfast. There are other great varieties including Scarlet Globe, Flamboyant Sabina. All these can be bought at garden centres and online.

Planting Radish

You can grow radish in seed trays but they also grow very well straight in the ground. When you sow them in the ground sow them thinly in rows 15cm apart for summer varieties or for winter varieties sow them around 25cm apart. If you sow them thinly apart you do not need to thin them out once they grow saving you a lot of time.

Growing Radish

When growing radish you need to keep the soil moist which will ensure they grow fast and speedy. This will also stop them from splitting . When you grow in late summer it can be a lot harder as its a lot drier so keeping it moist is a big job.

Harvesting Radish

From planting the seeds to picking them is not long at all it only takes around 3-6 weeks! Which is very fast, hence why you need to keep sowing every two weeks to keep a crop coming.

As you can see from the tips and advice above its very easy growing and planting radish and it will grow really fast. This is a great crop to grow with children so that they don’t get bored fast.
