Planting Carrots

Carrots are a very difficult veg to grow. They require fertile and well-drained soil. If the soil is Stoney they may fork or end up stunted. Short varieties are a good type to grow in containers.

Growing Carrots

Carrots are usually best grown in the ground but the short varieties can be grown in containers. Do not let the weeds take over as they can suffocate the plants, make sure you hand weed round the plants. Be careful not to disturb the foliage as this will attract the carrot fly. Try and keep covered with fleece.

Harvesting Carrots

Carrots take 12- 16 weeks till the are ready for harvesting. Pick as soon as they are large enough, do not let them grow too big as this will sacrifice the flavor of the carrot.
