How to grow French Beans tips and advice
French Beans like nice warm soil in a sunny position with well rotted organic matter in or garden compost in (this is best put in late autumn winter)
Sowing and Planting
It is best to plant these in late spring or early summer and 2 beans per pot.
When to plant
You can sow beans from April through to July.

- Hunter climbing French Bean.
Planting
As mentioned futher up it is best to wait till late spring or early summer to plant as they are sensitive plants. Plant two beans per pot around 5cm deep. These can be planted out when the plants reach about 10cm tall. The plants need spacing around 20cm apart. Always have a few extra just in case you loos the plants.
You can grow these in double rows but remember to keep the same spacing for the plants
Growing
French beans need looking after and protecting while growing as they can be prone to be getting attacked by slugs and also birds love to eat the tops off them. They also need protecting if cold weather is due, this caan be done with fleece or newspaper. Mulching around the plants also helps with moisture loss.
Harvesting
Harvest the pods when they are big enough to be eaten. The pods should just snap in half with no issues.
