Kale can be planted from March through to June.

Planting Kale

Seeds can be sown thinly in deep seed beds, once they start to grow they need thinning out to about 8cm apart.

Growing Kale

The young kale plants need to moved to the new growing position when the plants have around 6-7 leaves. The lowest leaves need to be at ground level.

The plants need to be well watered in. You need around 45cm between the plants.

The plants need protecting from the birds. Pidgeon’s especially love to eat them.

Harvesting Kale

Leaves can be removed from the plant from October onwards. Start taking them off from the top of the plant.

Side shoots come after the main crown is harvested and these are usually ready around March.
