February Jobs in the Fruit Garden

Welcome to our page on jobs to do in the fruit garden in February.

Here you will find all the things you need to do in this month.

Prune Raspberry canes:- This is the last month that you can prune the autumn raspberries. Cut them down to the ground. For Summer raspberries trim the tops.

Prune blackcurrant, red current and gooseberry bushes back.

Mulch fruit trees, but be careful not not mound mulch round the trunks.

Prune Apple and Pear trees now as they are still dormant. This is your last chance to do them.

Do not prune plums, cherries and apricots until summer as this can encourage diseases.

Protect the blossoms on apricots, peaches and nectarines, but make sure insects can still get in for pollinating.

Force rhubarb by putting a bin over the top of the crown.

Cover outdoor strawberry plants with a cloche to encourage an early crop.
