January Jobs in the Fruit Garden

Fruit Garden Jobs In January

January is the beginning of the year and it’s always great to start the year off well. Here are tips on what jobs to do in January.

Pruning:-

Prune all your apple trees and pear trees – these need doing now while the trees are dormant.

Do not prune plums, cherries and apricots though as these need doing in the summer. If they are done now there will be more chance of them getting silver leaf infections.

Prune black currents, red currents and gooseberry bushes.

What to order:-

Now is the time to order all your fruit bushes and to get them planted. Make sure the area is well – prepared and in a sheltered position. The fruit will taste a lot better than the supermarket produce.

Other Jobs in the garden

Start to force rhubarb by placing an upturned bucket or a bin over the top of the crown. These will force the Rhubarb and it should be ready in about 8 weeks time.
